Armor Latch Sliding Door Deadbolt
Can I use a regular Door Armor kit on a Side Light door?
NO! Aside from breaking your glass, there are a lot of reasons why you should not do this. Side Light doors do not have a doorjamb so there is nothing for screws to hold onto. Using shorter screws makes the Jamb Shield pretty much useless. We created a kit specifically for side light doors because nothing else would work. Our Side Light Jamb Shield is L-Shaped. The stability for this piece comes from driving 3-1/2-inch screws through the face of the Jamb shield back into the sidelight jamb.
Shorter screws are used to hold the Jamb Shield in place. The Hinge Shields are also much different and help to hold the entire door unit in place. Many side light doors are attached with finished nails and can simply fall into the house if kicked hard enough. For more information on sidelight doors, please look at the installation video on the Side Light Door information page.
Can the night lock install on tile?
The NIGHTLOCK comes complete with easy instructions, 2β³ long matching screws and plastic anchors for mounting on ceramic tile, marble or concrete floors. Specs: Overall dimensions: 9-Β½β length x 3-β β height.
Can you explain how the Armor Latch works and why it won't suffice to just put a dowel in the track?
The dual locking system helps prevent sliding glass doors from being lifted out of their track. Once the front door is secured, sliding glass doors are an inviting target. A broomstick in the track will not prevent the door from being lifted out of the track. Armor Latch helps prevent prying and also serves as a sliding glass door child safety lock.
Do I need to have 2 quarters clearance all the way around my door?
If you are installing Door Armor with MINI Door Shields, you need to have 2 quarters of clearance between your door and the door frame. However, the only area where the 2 quarters is important is the area where the lock goes into the door frame. 1 quarter of clearance everywhere else is fine. If you cannot fit 2 quarters in the area near the deadbolt and other locks, you should purchase the Door Armor PRO kit.

Double doors are among the most difficult to secure because there is no easy way to secure the center section of the door. Our french door frame kit system secures the top and bottom of the door along with the door locks and the hinges.
The Double Door/French door lock set solution works best on doors that are not the primary entry point since the Night Lock cannot be applied once you leave your home. Did this answer your questions? Thank you for your feedback
How is the Pro Door Shield different from the MINI Door Shield?
MINI DOOR Shields are one-piece and are designed to go around the edge of the door to help prevent the door from splitting when it is kicked.
MINI Door Shields are very effective and can be installed in a matter of seconds, with 2 screws and no pre-drilling.
MINI Door Shields are also very difficult to see from the outside of your house, which makes them very popular for anyone wishing to avoid changing the appearance of their door.
The downside of the MINI Door Shields is the fact that the Door Shield and the Jamb Shield must fit into the same space between the door and doorjamb.
This is why we recommend that users see if they can fit two quarters between their door and door frame before ordering kits with MINI Door Shields.
PRO Door Shields come as a 2-piece kit and are attached by screws that go through the door. PRO Door Shields are more difficult to install than MINI door shields but installation is still quite simple.
Pro Door Shields are made with a 90-degree bend, which is designed to add additional prying protection.
The PRO Door Shields work extremely well with the Pry Shields because they fit together to make a stronger seal against prying.
The primary downsides of the PRO Door Shields are the cost (they cost more), more difficult installation (must drill through the door) and it is more visible on the door.
MINI Door Shields are made to fit doors that are 1 ΒΎ inches thick. Did this answer your questions? Thank you for your feedback
I don't have enough space to install all of the Door Armor pieces. What should I do?
If you do not have the space to install the MINI Door Shield and the Jamb Shield together on your door (about the thickness of 2 quarters), we recommend that you purchase a PRO Kit. If you have already purchased your kit, you can try the following steps. 1). Overtighten the screws in the middle hinge and hinge shield - this will often pull the door away from the lock side of the jamb and will give you more space. 2). Overtighten the screws in the lock area of the Jamb Shield - this should also give you more space for the components to fit. 3). Purchase PRO Door Shields - Customers, who have purchased a MAX or MINI kit can get 50% off of PRO Door Shields. Just Contact Us by sending a case and type "PRO DOOR SHIELDS NEEDED" in the subject line. We will send you a promotional code. We have found that this costs about the same amount as it will to send the product back. Did this answer your questions? Thank you for your feedback
I have a door that swings out -- do you have any products for that?
We offer a Universal Latch Protector, which will help prevent the door from being pried open (the best way to get into an out swinging door). We also offer Hinge Pins, which prevent a closed door from being lifted off of the hinges.
To solve this issue, we recommend Long Reach Weather Stripping. This is essentially a thicker piece of weather stripping that will help you solve this issue. We sell this on our site or you can find it at many door distributors. We have not found it in any big box hardware store. Unfortunately, the MINI Door Shields and JAMB Shield create a small space that normal weather-stripping will not eliminate. Some customers have reported that cutting a small slit in the weather-stripping can also work. Did this answer your questions? Thank you for your feedback
I have metal doors, will your product still work?
Yes, our products work on steel, metal, wood, and fiberglass doors. Did this answer your questions? Thank you for your feedback

I'm looking at the MAX and the MAX Plus, what is the difference, and which one should I purchase?
The only difference between the MAX and the MAX PLUS is that the PLUS comes with a pry shield as the Max does not. (The same is true of the MINI and MINI PLUS). The Pry Shield is designed to help prevent prying attacks and comes with tamper-resistant screws.
Is it important to use the Door Shields?
Door Shields are EXTREMELY important. If not used, the door will likely split in half when kicked, if the jamb has been reinforced.

MINI Door Shield vs PRO Door Shields
MINI Door Shields are installed around the edge of the door and help prevent the door from splitting when kicked. They are very effective but require additional clearance because they must fit in the same space occupied by the Jamb Shield, when the door is closed. If you can fit 2 quarters between the door and doorjamb (on the lock side of the door, with the door closed), you should have no problem installing the MINI Door Shields with your Door Armor Kit. MINI Door Shields are included in our MAX and our PRO kits.
PRO Door Shields are a 2 piece kit. One piece is on the inside and the other is on the outside of the door. The two pieces are connected by screws (included) that go through the door. PRO Door Shields eliminate the need for additional clearance. PRO Door Shields are more visible and are more difficult to install (not difficult but more difficult than the MINI Door Shields). PRO Door Armor kist come with BOTH MINI and PRO Door Shields so you have a choice of which to install. If you are not certain about your clearance, we recommend purchasing a kit with PRO Door Shields.
If you have purchased a MAX or MINI Door Armor kit and cannot install your kit due to lack of clearance. Contact us and we will send you a promotion code for a significant discount on PRO Door Shields.
No. If you have enough room between the inside of your doorjamb and your window (4 inches to be safe), we recommend using a standard Door Armor kit.
My door is too thin for the MINI Door Shields, what should I do?
MINI Door Shields are designed to fit doors that are 1-3/4-inch thick. If doors are any thinner or thicker than 1-3/4 inches thick, you must use our PRO Door Shields, which will fit doors of just about any thickness. One note of caution, if your door is 1-3/8 inches thick, you have an interior door. Our Jamb Shield and Hinge Shields will also not fit this Door. For 1-3/8-inch doors, you must use a Door Armor Safe Room Kit! Did this answer your questions? Thank you for your feedback
Yes. Just turn it upside down. It doesn't matter. It's made to work from both sides. Did this answer your questions? Thank you for your feedback
Door Armor is the only product that is made for side light doors. In addition, we use Galvanealled steel, which is corrosion resistant, and our parts are powder coated. Aside from that, we have always been and will always be made in the USA.
What are the exact measurements of the cutouts in the mortise jamb shield and the spacer in between?
4 inches long by 1 inch wide. 1/2 inch in-between.
What are the measurements for door shields?
MINI Door Shields are 4 inches x 1-3/4 inches x 5/8 inches and are made of 20-gauge steel. PRO Door Shields are 5 inches long and are made of 16-gauge steel. PRO Door Shields are 2 piece kits that go through the door.
ββWhat are the measurements of the door shields and the gap in them?
They are 4 inches X 1-3/4 inches. The hole in the middle is 1 inch x 1 inch. Did this answer your questions? Thank you for your feedback
What are torx security screws?
Torx security screws come with our pry shield and require a special bit for installation or removal. They are much easier to install than "one-way" security screws. Did this answer your questions? Thank you for your feedback
What colors are available for Door Armor?
Door Armor is available in three accent colors: white, brushed nickel, and aged bronze. These colors are designed to match your existing lock hardware. Our Door Armor Side Light kit is only available in white.
What do you call the screw that is used exclusively for the Pry Shield?
Torx security screws. Did this answer your questions? Thank you for your feedback
What gauge of steel does the shields have?
Our door Jamb Shield is 16 gauges and our Door Shields are 20 gauges.
What is Pro Door Armor and what does it do?
PRO Door Armor kits come with PRO Door Shields. Did this answer your questions? Thank you for your feedback
The center holes on the Jamb Shield are 3-1/2 inches apart. Each of the holes on the Jamb Shield is 2 inches long. The Jamb Shield will fit locks spaced from 4-1/2 inches to 21-1/2 inches apart. In the event, your locks don't fit (which does not happen often), it is fine to file out a 1/8 to 1/4-inch to make it work. That will not void your warranty or cause any other issues. We use galvanealled steel so rusting is not an issue. Did this answer your questions? Thank you for your feedback
What is the difference between a Fix-A-Jamb and Door Armor?
FIX-A-JAMB is designed to be a repair product, not a security product. The Exterior FIX-A-JAMB is 40 inches long and is L-shaped so it covers up the damage of a broken door frame. The L-shape actually makes it a little more difficult to install, if there has been no damage to the doorjamb. Installing the Exterior FIX-A-JAMB requires that you remove the trim molding on the door if it has not already been damaged. FIX-A-JAMB will make your jamb stronger but it only covers one part of the door, which leaves the locks and hinges vulnerable. Door Armor is designed to be a security product. It protects all of the vulnerable points on your door (jamb, door, and hinges). The Door Armor Jamb Shield is easier to install because it does not require the removal or alteration of a door to install. Did this answer your questions? Thank you for your feedback
What is the difference between a plus and a pro kit?
Plus kits come with a pry shield, to help protect your door from pry bar or crow bar attacks. PRO kits come with PRO Door Shields, which are meant to eliminate installation clearance issues.
What is the difference between PRO, MAX and MINI Kits?
MINI Kits come with Door Shields and a Jamb Shield Only. They do not include Hinge Shields (although they come with extra screws for your hinges)
- We recommend MINI Kits most for multi-family customers and investment properties.
MAX Kits come Door Shields and a Jamb Shield Plus 2 Hinge Shields included
- MAX Kits are most popular with homeowners and those seeking maximum security
PRO Kits come with everything in a MINI or MAX kit but include PRO Door Shields - If you are not sure that you can fit 2 quarters between your door and doorjamb (with the door closed) we recommend purchasing a PRO kit. PRO kits do not require 2 quarters of clearance.
PRO kits come with BOTH MINI Door Shields and PRO Door Shields so you can choose the one you want to use (you do not use both on the same door).
You can add prying protection to any Door Armor kit during your order
What is the difference between the sidelight door jamb guard and the regular door jamb guard?
The main difference between the side light kit and the regular kit is in the way it attaches to the door. A sidelight door has no jamb for long screws to attach to. The sidelight jamb shield is therefore L-shaped and attaches to the face of the sidelight with long screws. In short, they are really completely different, in the way they work. What is the purpose of the punchouts in a jamb shield?
Many older doors did not come with deadbolts. Our Jamb Shield has knockouts so that the holes will line up with almost any lock placement. Door Armor will fit locks that are spaced from 4-1/2-inches to 21-1/2-inches in the center. Also, many apartments now require privacy locks (2nd deadbolt that opens only from the inside). Our Jamb Shield works on many doors with this configuration. Did this answer your questions? Thank you for your feedback
What is the weakest part of the door?
The weakest part of a door is where the lock goes into the doorjamb. Most doorjambs are made of 1/2-inch thick soft pine, which is very weak. Did this answer your questions? Thank you for your feedback
What product do you recommend for most doors
The Door Armor MAX kit is our most popular kit. If you can fit 2 quarters between your Door and frame (where the locks go into the door), this kit will work for you. If you are not sure, we recommend that you purchase our Door Armor PRO kit. The PRO kits are made for doors with minimal clearance and also come with MINI Door Shields so you can choose, which you want to use. We have products for all kinds of doors so let us know how we can help.

What sizes do the Ultra Door Shields come in?
Ultra Door Shields come made for locks with 2 3/8-inch and 2 3/4-inch backsets. Ultra Door Shields have been discontinued but may still be in stock. Over time, we found that far more customers preferred the ease of the MINI Door Shields, which do not require removal of the locks, to the design of the Ultra Door Shields. Did this answer your questions? Thank you for your feedback
What's the difference between regular Door Armor, and Door Armor SafeRoom kits?
Regular Door Armor is designed for exterior, 1-3/4-inch doors. The Safe Room Kits are designed for interior 1-3/8-inch doors. Did this answer your questions?
Where do you recommend the Hinge Shields go?
Hinge shields should be installed on the lower and middle hinges, (and not at the top) because the pressure from a kick typically happens in this area (unless the thief is really, really tall). Did this answer your questions? Thank you for your feedback
Will Door Armor Fit - 2 quarters clearance
If you can fit 2 quarters between your door and door frame, with your door closed, you should have no problem installing any door armor MAX or MINI Kit. If you cannot fit 2 quarters (or if you are not sure), we recommend purchasing a PRO kit. Pro kits come with PRO Door Shields, which eliminate door clearance issues. Also, our PRO kits come with BOTH PRO and MINI Door Shields so you can use whichever you like and can use the other on a different door.
Note: The only place where clearance is important is where the locks go into the door frame. If you have 2 quarters in that area, clearance at the top and bottom of the door or on the hinge side typically does not matter.
Will door armor work on wood, fiberglass or metal doors?
Yes. Door Armor will work on wood, fiberglass or metal doors. If you are debating a new door purchase, we recommend metal doors over fiberglass or wood but Door Armor will make any door stronger.
