Are Door Armor products visible from the outside?

Door Armor is coated to match your lock hardware and is designed to be discreet. It is unlikely that someone would notice Door Armor from the outside unless they attempt to break in and encounter its resistance.

Can you explain how the Armor Latch works and why it won't suffice to just put a dowel in the track?

The dual locking system helps prevent sliding glass doors from being lifted out of their track. Once the front door is secured, sliding glass doors are an inviting target. A broomstick in the track will not prevent the door from being lifted out of the track. Armor Latch helps prevent prying and also serves as a sliding glass door child safety lock. Can you tell me more information about your products?

We don’t sell doors. Since 2004, we have created the world’s most effective door security, door repair, and personal security solutions. In other words, we make your existing doors more secure. More than 400,000 doors are secured and counting... Door Armor, our most popular product, is a patented door security device that reinforces your existing doors.

Our solutions are police tested & recommended and can be installed yourself, using only a drill, in under 30 minutes (you don’t need to remove your door) We work hard to include as much information about our products in our product descriptions on the product page, but if there’s something more specific you’d like to know please contact us.

Do I need to have 2 quarters clearance all the way around my door?

If you are installing Door Armor with MINI Door Shields, you need to have 2 quarters of clearance between your door and the door frame. However, the only area where the 2 quarters is important is the area where the lock goes into the door frame. 1 quarter of clearance everywhere else is fine. If you cannot fit 2 quarters in the area near the deadbolt and other locks, you should purchase the Door Armor PRO kit. Did this answer your questions? Thank you for your feedback.

Do I need to remove any weather stripping already in the door before installing a new one?

You must remove the existing weatherstripping. If your house and doors were built after 1970, you should have no problem removing the old weatherstripping. Just pull it from the top, and it should come out. The new weatherstripping should easily push into the small channel left when you remove the old weatherstripping. You might need to cut a few inches off of the new weatherstripping but that should be the only alteration you need to make. I hope this helps.

How wide are door shields?

MINI Door Shields are made to fit doors that are 1 ¾ inches thick. Did this answer your questions? Thank you for your feedback

I don't have enough space to install all of the Door Armor pieces. What should I do?

If you do not have the space to install the MINI Door Shield and the Jamb Shield together on your door (about the thickness of 2 quarters), we recommend that you purchase a PRO Kit. If you have already purchased your kit, you can try the following steps. 1). Overtighten the screws in the middle hinge and hinge shield - this will often pull the door away from the lock side of the jamb and will give you more space. 2). Overtighten the screws in the lock area of the Jamb Shield - this should also give you more space for the components to fit. 3). Purchase PRO Door Shields - Customers, who have purchased a MAX or MINI kit can get 50% off of PRO Door Shields. Just Contact Us by sending a case and type "PRO DOOR SHIELDS NEEDED" in the subject line. We will send you a promotional code. We have found that this costs about the same amount as it will to send the product back. Did this answer your questions? Thank you for your feedback

I have a draft / can see light coming through my weather stripping after installing the Jamb Shield and MINI Door Shields. What can I do?

To solve this issue, we recommend Long Reach Weather Stripping. This is essentially a thicker piece of weather stripping that will help you solve this issue. We sell this on our site or you can find it at many door distributors. We have not found it in any big box hardware store. Unfortunately, the MINI Door Shields and JAMB Shield create a small space that normal weather-stripping will not eliminate. Some customers have reported that cutting a small slit in the weather-stripping can also work. Did this answer your questions? Thank you for your feedback

I just purchased the MAX Kit, and I realize I don't have enough space to install all of the pieces. What should I do?

If you do not have the space to install the MINI Door Shield and the Jamb Shield together on your door (about the thickness of 2 quarters), we recommend that you purchase a PRO Kit. If you have already purchased your kit, you can try the following steps.

Overtighten the screws in the middle hinge and hinge shield - this will often pull the door away from the lock side of the jamb and will give you more space.

Overtighten the screws in the lock area of the Jamb Shield - this should also give you more space for the components to fit.

I'm interested in the Door Armor Pro Side Light Door Security Kit & the Pry Shield but I need it in black. Do you plan to make it in black? If not, do you think spray painting it would work?

We will not be making that part in any other color any time soon. You can definitely paint the part. I would recommend using spray paint, as that will be more durable.

I'm looking at the MAX and the MAX Plus, what is the difference, and which one should I purchase?

The only difference between the MAX and the MAX PLUS is that the PLUS comes with a pry shield as the Max does not. (The same is true of the MINI and MINI PLUS). The Pry Shield is designed to help prevent prying attacks and comes with tamper-resistant screws.

I need an installer | Can you recommend an installer?

Door Armor is designed to be a do-it-yourself product.  While there have been times when we have had installer networks, we have found that anyone with handy skills can install our products.  With that said, any local handyman or your neighbor can likely install Door Armor.

My door is too thin for the MINI Door Shields, what should I do?

MINI Door Shields are designed to fit doors that are 1-3/4-inch thick. If doors are any thinner or thicker than 1-3/4 inches thick, you must use our PRO Door Shields, which will fit doors of just about any thickness. One note of caution, if your door is 1-3/8 inches thick, you have an interior door. Our Jamb Shield and Hinge Shields will also not fit this Door. For 1-3/8-inch doors, you must use a Door Armor Safe Room Kit! Did this answer your questions? Thank you for your feedback.

My Door is Too Tight - Door Armor Won't Fit

We always try to make sure that people perform the 2 quarter test before purchasing Door Armor.  If your door is too tight, there are a few tricks that you can try.

Try to over-tighten the screws in the middle hinge and hinge shield.  Believe it or not, this will often create more room on the other side of the door.

Try to over-tighten the screws in the Jamb Shield, around the lock area.  Most doors have extra space behind the doorjamb.  This often works to give you a little extra space.

If the door is still to tight, the Pro Door Shields are made specifically for doors with minimal clearance between the door and door frame.  The article below talks about the difference between the MINI and PRO Door Shields - Will Door Armor Fit - 2 quarters clearance

There seem to be a few competitors that do similar things. (Side Light). How is Armor Concepts Door Armor the best? Made in the USA?

Door Armor is the only product that is made for side light doors. In addition, we use Galvanealled steel, which is corrosion resistant, and our parts are powder coated. Aside from that, we have always been and will always be made in the USA.

Universal Latch Protector

The Universal latch protector helps prevent outswing doors from being pried open. This is often recommended for outswing double doors as well as single doors that open outward. View Universal Latch Protector

We are replacing our doors. Do you recommend wood, fiberglass, or steel doors?

If given a choice, we recommend using a steel (metal) door. Steel will dent but it is much more difficult to break than a wooden or fiberglass door. Door armor will work on wooden or fiberglass doors but steel doors are just stronger.

What are the JAMB Shield dimensions?

The Jamb Shield is 46 inches long, 1-7/8- inches thick, and is made of 16 gauge, galvanealled steel (weather resistant). The jamb shield comes powder coated (not painted) and is guaranteed not to rust.

What are the measurements of the door shields and the gap in them?

They are 4 inches X 1-3/4 inches. The hole in the middle is 1 inch x 1 inch. Did this answer your questions? Thank you for your feedback

What colors are available for Door Armor?

Door Armor is available in three accent colors: white, brushed nickel, and aged bronze. These colors are designed to match your existing lock hardware.  Door Armor Side Light Door components are only available in white.

What do you do if you don't have two quarters' worth of space between your door and your jamb?

If you do not have two-quarters worth of space between your door and door jamb, you should purchase a PRO Door Armor kit. Did this answer your questions? Thank you for your feedback

What gauge of steel does the shields have?

Our door Jamb Shield is 16 gauges and our Door Shields are 20 gauges.

What happens if my door is kicked in despite having Door Armor installed?

If your door is kicked in while Door Armor is installed, we offer a guarantee to pay up to $500 towards your insurance deductible. Please refer to our guarantee policy for more details.

What is Pro Door Armor and what does it do?

PRO Door Armor kits come with PRO Door Shields. PRO Door Shields come as a 2-piece kit and are attached by screws that go through the door. PRO Door Shields are more difficult to install than MINI door shields but installation is still quite simple. Pro Door Shields are made with a 90-degree bend, which is designed to add additional prying protection. The PRO Door Shields work extremely well with the Pry Shields because they fit together to make a stronger seal against prying. Did this answer your questions? Thank you for your feedback

What is the center-to-center spacing of the 8 knockouts in the jamb shield, and what are the measurements of each rectangular knockout hole?

The center holes on the Jamb Shield are 3-1/2 inches apart. Each of the holes on the Jamb Shield is 2 inches long. The Jamb Shield will fit locks spaced from 4-1/2 inches to 21-1/2 inches apart. In the event, your locks don't fit (which does not happen often), it is fine to file out a 1/8 to 1/4-inch to make it work. That will not void your warranty or cause any other issues. We use galvanealled steel so rusting is not an issue.

What is the difference between PRO, MAX and MINI Kits?

MINI Kits come with Door Shields and a Jamb Shield Only.  They do not include Hinge Shields (although they come with extra screws for your hinges)

We recommend MINI Kits most for multi-family customers and investment properties.

MAX Kits come Door Shields and a Jamb Shield Plus 2 Hinge Shields included

MAX Kits are most popular with homeowners and those seeking maximum security

PRO Kits come with everything in a MINI or MAX kit but include PRO Door Shields - If you are not sure that you can fit 2 quarters between your door and doorjamb (with the door closed) we recommend purchasing a PRO kit.  PRO kits do not require 2 quarters of clearance.

PRO kits come with BOTH MINI Door Shields and PRO Door Shields so you can choose the one you want to use (you do not use both on the same door).

You can add prying protection to any Door Armor kit during your order

What is the difference between steel jambs and steel doors?

Door Jamb (or Door Frame) is what holds a door in place. Most residential doors have wooden door frames. Most commercial buildings have steel jambs. A door with a steel jamb will likely cost $1,000 or more and is much more difficult to install. Many people think that steel doors have steel frames. For homes, that is rarely the case. Many homes have door slabs that have a steel exterior. While these doors are more secure, wooden frames break easily and "steel" residential doors are actually made of foam and are covered by 24-gauge steel skin. The only solid part of most steel doors is a 12-inch wood block in the lock area. This is why steel doors will often split if not reinforced. Did this answer your questions? What is the difference between the sidelight door jamb guard and the regular door jamb guard?

The main difference between the side light kit and the regular kit is in the way it attaches to the door. A sidelight door has no jamb for long screws to attach to. The sidelight jamb shield is therefore L-shaped and attaches to the face of the sidelight with long screws. In short, they are really completely different, in the way they work. What is the purpose for the Pro Door Shields?

PRO Door Shields help prevent the door from splitting when kicked and provide protection against prying.

PRO Door Shields were designed to help avoid clearance issues experienced with MINI Door Shield and to add additional protection against prying.

PRO Door Shields come as a 2-piece kit and are attached by screws that go through the door.

PRO Door Shields are more difficult to install than MINI door shields but installation is still quite simple. Pro Door Shields are made with a 90-degree bend, which is how they help stop prying attacks.

The PRO Door Shields work extremely well with the Pry Shields because they fit together to make a stronger seal against prying.

What is the purpose of the punchouts in a jamb shield?

Many older doors did not come with deadbolts. Our Jamb Shield has knockouts so that the holes will line up with almost any lock placement. Door Armor will fit locks that are spaced from 4-1/2-inches to 21-1/2-inches in the center. Also, many apartments now require privacy locks (2nd deadbolt that opens only from the inside). Our Jamb Shield works on many doors with this configuration. Did this answer your questions? Thank you for your feedback

What is the unique identifier on the military discount page

That can be your badge number or service number from the armed forces.  This is primarily to keep bots from posting our promotion code on the internet.  We appreciate the service of our police and military.

What is the weakest part of the door?

The weakest part of a door is where the lock goes into the doorjamb. Most doorjambs are made of 1/2-inch thick soft pine, which is very weak. Did this answer your questions? Thank you for your feedback

What product do you recommend for most doors?

The Door Armor MAX kit is our most popular kit.  If you can fit 2 quarters between your Door and frame (where the locks go into the door), this kit will work for you.  If you are not sure, we recommend that you purchase our Door Armor PRO kit.  The PRO kits are made for doors with minimal clearance and also come with MINI Door Shields so you can choose which you want to use.  We have products for all kinds of doors, so let us know how we can help.

What type of spray paint do you recommend?

We would recommend a gloss rustoleum from Lowe's or Home Depot.

Where do you recommend the hinge shields to go?

Hinge shields should be installed on the lower and middle hinges, (and not at the top) because the pressure from a kick typically happens in this area (unless the thief is really, really tall).

Why do you need to use each part in the kit?

The weakest part of the door will break when it is kicked hard enough. The jamb is almost always the first part to break. If you reinforce the jamb, the lock area on the door will likely be the next part to break. If you reinforce those 2 areas, the door can easily be kicked off of the hinges. We found all of this out the hard way. If any of the pieces were not necessary, we just would not provide them. We offer different configurations because we know that different customers will want different options, based on cost or desired security level. Not everyone wants maximum security. Why do you use Torx screws and not square drive or phillips head screws?

Because we used everything else first. We have been doing this since 2004. Philips and square drive screws strip much more easily that Torx drive screws, which are designed to withstand very high amounts of torque (hence the name). In short, Torx is the best available. We have spent more time and money researching screws than we care to talk or think about.

Will Door Armor Fit - 2 quarters clearance

If you can fit 2 quarters between your door and door frame, with your door closed, you should have no problem installing any door armor MAX or MINI Kit.  If you cannot fit 2 quarters (or if you are not sure), we recommend purchasing a PRO kit.  Pro kits come with PRO Door Shields, which eliminate door clearance issues.  Also, our PRO kits come with BOTH PRO and MINI Door Shields so you can use whichever you like and can use the other on a different door.

Note: The only place where clearance is important is where the locks go into the door frame.  If you have 2 quarters in that area, clearance at the top and bottom of the door or on the hinge side typically does not matter.
